About Me

I have always been enchanted by films, undoubtedly due to them being one of the few regular entertainments I could consume from a young age. Things really took off after watching The Fellowship of the Ring, which blew my mind and actively made me wonder just how on (Middle) earth they made small characters look that size and where it was all filmed. From then on I was Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, swallowing information on the Oscars, the box office, directors and cinematic techniques. There is, to the best of my knowledge, only one week where I have not watched a single film.

I graduated with a BA Film and History from the University of Southampton in 2022; a course that solidified my enthusiasms for the art form. This blog, a transition from a similar library of my bits and bobs over on Google Blogger, is purposed with continuing my writing and thoughts after university and away from the platform of that institution’s entertainment magazine. In effect, I do not want to limit my opinions to my Letterboxd account.

But then again, I do not want to limit my opinions to just film. Here you will find anecdotes and experiences of my time both at home and abroad, as well as the odd random bit of writing chucked in too.

Still, perhaps I am better reflected in the things that I love. These include the films of Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Jackson, Tony Scott, Akira Kurosawa, Michael Mann and David Lean; the performances of Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, Tom Cruise and Paul Newman; the books of Charles Dickens, JRR Tolkien, Bill Bryson and Graham Greene; the music of The Beatles, David Bowie, Credence Clearwater Revival, Flight of the Conchords and any Australian indie band; the poems of my friends; the foods of Greece, Thailand and England; the collector’s section of HMV; and a good old country walk to a good old country pub.
